Biography
Gordon Luce was born and raised in California.
“Like most children, I enjoyed drawing and coloring. However, I was never encouraged by others to keep pursuing that. Growing up, I would draw what was around me and sometimes draw from imagination. I very much admired friends that could draw things like cars and weird creatures in detail. Even then, though, I did not give serious thought to ‘becoming an artist.’
Gordon did become a musician. He sang, played guitar, banjo and some saxophone with various bands from the time he was in junior high school through graduate school.
Gordon obtained a Master of Science degree with an emphasis in clinical psychology. He opened his own vocational rehabilitation firm. While very busy in his business, Gordon began drawing and painting again.
“I began taking painting workshops and participating in weekly drawing sessions, participating in shows, and selling some paintings.”
The art endeavors began taking more of his time. Gordon downsized his vocational rehabilitation business and devoted more time to what he enjoyed most—painting. Eventually he closed his rehabilitation business because he was enjoying increasing success as an artist.
“Mostly I paint en plein air—outdoors. It is amazing how outdoor paintings can successfully capture the atmosphere, the sun, the shade, the color, even seemingly the smell and feeling of a place or event, more than realistic photos or other depictions ever could.”
Gordon has participated in many juried plein air festivals, invitational events and other shows. He resides in Yorba Linda and Morro Bay, California.
